Eastern Ontario has many experiences to offer. With so many open spaces it's no wonder that there's so much natural beauty to behold. This is proudly on display in Glengarry county in Ontario's far East. The smart folks there have set aside some spaces for parks and trails. This equates to good 'ole fun when you're playing outside. Glengarry Trails connects the town of Alexandria, Ontario with some "wild" wooded splendor.

There's several trails to choose from. All in varying distance, but all good for the soul, mind, and body. Your aim doesn't matter so much as the result of your visit. Because, whether your looking for fitness, nature, science, or quiet reflection this is the place! A mixture of wetland, mixed forest, and a quaint lake set the stage for your outdoorism and wholesome enjoyment.

The Glengarry Trails are so easily accessible. Coming from the city is no trouble at all. Right in Alexandria or off Highway 43 you'll find what must be the pride of Glengarry. The trail system would make for a great day long adventure complete with picnic or a lazy nature walk. Bring along the binoculars and watch the birds. As you stroll along the boardwalk keep an eye out for real life carnivirous plants that suckle on fleeting insects.
One lazy, boring Sunday in mid-May we took a walk. Not just around the block, we shuffled over to Glengarry Trails. All this time and we'd never walked their paths. So, it was about time. I'm just so thrilled when I can get my crew to go hiking! The trails were very nice. We found them well marked, cleared, and easy to navigate. Trails were a bit muddy, that's to be expected in May though. Also, if it's warm make sure you have bug protection(netting, DEET, etc.) the biting bugs can be thick.
It's great fun watching your children discover their world. Mine had no idea that there's really plants that eat insects in our own backyard. The sad part is many young people know little about the natural world these days.
That's why these natural settings are so vital to our society and culture. These few hours spent together outside make up for a busy week of individual activities that see us apart. We saw another family on the trails. Just like us, taking advantage of a great blessing in Glengarry Trails.
